Hyderabad: GMR School of Aviation, a strategic business unit of GMR Aero Technic, has partnered with Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya (GSV) to develop a skilled workforce for India’s rapidly expanding aviation maintenance sector.
The collaboration aims to bridge the skill gap in the aviation industry by integrating academic learning with industry-oriented technical training. As part of the initiative, students will have access to a specialised B Sc (Aircraft Maintenance Engineering) programme aligned with regulatory and academic frameworks as well as real-world maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) requirements.
The programme combines the academic and research capabilities of GSV with the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering licensing programme offered by the GMR School of Aviation, which is approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). Students will also gain operational exposure through live MRO environments.
The partnership was announced during the inaugural session of the MRO South Asia Summit 2026 held in New Delhi on March 11.
Speaking at the event, Manoj Choudhary, Vice-Chancellor of Gati Shakti Vishwavidyalaya, said the collaboration reflects the spirit of industry–academia cooperation and aims to produce industry-ready professionals for India’s growing aviation maintenance ecosystem.
“Working in the true spirit of industry–academia collaboration, the partnership between GSV and GMR School of Aviation will create industry-ready human capital for India’s growing aviation MRO sector and contribute directly to national priorities,” he said.
Ashok Gopinath, President and Accountable Manager at GMR Aero Technic, said the initiative would help build the next generation of aviation maintenance professionals.
“This collaboration marks a significant step toward shaping the next generation of aviation maintenance professionals. The programme aims to develop DGCA and EASA licensed aircraft maintenance engineers through a B Sc (Aircraft Maintenance Engineering) degree,” he said.
He added that the partnership would strengthen India’s self-reliance in the MRO sector while creating a sustainable pipeline of skilled engineers to support the industry’s rapid growth.
